Being a designer I was drawn to the beauty and simplicity of both the exterior and the interior design. Designed by John Smith Murdoch in the simplified or 'stripped' Classical style used in the 1920s and 1930s for Australian Government buildings, the design is both simple and functional but also extremely beautiful.
Timber panelling throughout showcases stunning Australian timbers including Tasmanian Blackwood and Black bean wood - both timbers incorporated in an Interior Design project I'm working on. Look at this beautiful example of timber panelling in the bathroom of the Prime Minister's suite. Such a contrast to the simple and functional white laminate joinery butting up to it.
