Today my clients' gained a clear view of the facade of the new home they are building in Goulburn, a regional town in NSW.
Previously this house has been hidden behind shrubs and temporary fencing allowing only glimpses of the entire facade. It looks amazing and I'm sure I feel as excited about the unveiling as my clients' do. I almost didn't recognise it with its newly poured concrete driveway and gate pillars. This image only shows the right hand side of the house... and yes, it is a rather large single storey house.
Although I am an Interior Designer, I have been very involved in many aspects of this new build. Most recently, working to brief and engage a landscaper. For this project I'm privileged to be working together with Chris Rowlands Landscaping on transforming the exterior of this large property into a beautiful garden for the family to enjoy.
We're now at the stage of finalising the exterior colour selection for the driveway and gates along with the rendered portico and pillars. Originally it was going to be Colourbond® Monument to match the roof, but the consensus is charcoal grey which will form a beautiful backdrop for the foliage of the selected plants. Western red cedar has been selected for a large pivoting entry door and garage doors soon to be installed.
As with interiors of homes, its important to get the right colour scheme for the exterior, taking into consideration surrounding properties, the house style and the garden. I look forward to sharing the updates as the garden and takes shape along with the interiors which are currently being tiled. I have a site visit scheduled this coming week, so expect plenty of pics. Exciting times... This is why I love being an Interior Designer.
If you've ever been involved in building a new home or undertaking a major house renovation please share your experience with choosing the exterior colour scheme. Did you find it daunting?
